Largometraje documental, 83 min, 2023Yūrei es una exploración de la memoria colectiva de descendientes de inmigrantes japoneses en México con la que busco retratar un fragmento de la memoria efímera del país y de un mundo cada vez más diverso. Entre la búsqueda de hechos históricos, me encontré inmersa en un mar de memorias, secretos silenciados e historias increíbles. La búsqueda histórica se tornó en una por mi propia identidad y mi lugar en una comunidad en desvanecimiento. ¿Se puede curar una herida que no se recuerda?
La representación de la memoria y el paso del tiempo siempre han sido elementos clave en mi trabajo como artista visual y cineasta. Este documental forma una intersección particular en la que la memoria del paisaje, la memoria individual y la memoria histórica se entretejen en una sola narrativa en torno a lo que forma la identidad. Ante las inevitables olas migratorias globales presentes y futuras, es primordial entender y explorar cómo transmitimos nuestras historias; las consecuencias del silencio y la importancia de la memoria. Somos un mundo formado por migrantes, y el ver atrás a un episodio migratorio específico puede elucidar sobre las maneras en las que construimos comunidades y tejemos futuros conjuntos.

Feature documentary, 83 min, 2023Yūrei (ghosts) is an exploration of the collective memory of descendants of Japanese immigrants in Mexico. Through this project, I seek to portray a fragment of the ephemeral memory of the country and of an increasingly diverse world. In my search for historical facts, I found myself immersed in a sea of memories, silenced secrets, and incredible stories. The historical quest transformed into a search for my own identity and my place in a vanishing community. Can a wound that is not remembered be healed?
The representation of memory and the passage of time have always been key elements in my work as a visual artist and filmmaker. This documentary forms a unique intersection where the memory of the landscape, individual memory, and historical memory intertwine into a single narrative about what constitutes identity. Faced with the inevitable waves of global migration, both present and future, it is essential to understand and explore how we transmit our stories; the consequences of silence and the importance of memory. We are a world made up of migrants, and looking back at a specific migratory episode can shed light on the ways in which we build communities and weave shared futures.
